Health: Researchers Testing New Vaccine That Could Lower Blood Pressure
DALLAS, TX (CBS) – A new way to lower blood pressure might be on the horizon.
Researchers say they're testing a vaccine they hope could replace daily blood pressure medication.
Rats immunized with needle-less vaccines maintained lower blood pressure for up to six months and showed reduced tissue damage to the heart and blood vessels, which is associated with hypertension.
In the study, which is published in the American Heart Association's journal Hypertension, scientists say the new technology could offer a new treatment option for those with high blood pressure and lead to the creation of new vaccines.
