Hard Rock Again Considers Opening Gaming Facility In Atlantic City
By David Madden
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) - The owners of the Hard Rock Casino franchise are asking New Jersey regulators for clearance to, perhaps, get involved in Atlantic City gaming.
This is not the first time they've tested the waters, so to speak, down the shore.
Hard Rock has long been rumored as a potential owner or operator and even flirted with building a small casino, only to back off.
Today, they're seeking what's called a "statement of compliance" from the Casino Control Commission. An explanation from commission spokesman Dan Hennigan:
"They have asked us to rule on whether or not they possess the good character, honesty, integrity, the business ability, the financial stability -- all of these requirements that they would have to meet when they get to the point that they want to get a license."
That's not to say they'll go for one, but if they do, it will make the licensing process easier and quicker.
In asking for the review, the Hard Rock did not indicate any specific project or property they might have in mind.
