Gloria Allred: Judge Made Right Ruling On Charges Against Cosby
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Famed attorney Gloria Allred agreed with a Montgomery County judge's decision to allow charges of sexual assault to remain in place against Bill Cosby, despite a promise made over a decade ago by former District Attorney Bruce Castor that he would never be prosecuted.
Allred, who represents 29 women who have made accusations against Cosby in some form, told Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that Cosby's decision to challenge the charges is just another attempt to avoid facing his accusers in criminal court.
"The judge clearly made the right decision on both the facts and the law when he decided to allow the criminal case against Mr. Cosby to move forward. Now Mr. Cosby is going to have to face those serious charges of aggravated indecent sexual assault in a criminal court. This motion by Mr. Cosby to have this criminal case dismissed, it was just the latest in a long string of unsuccessful legal maneuvers by him to try to avoid having a jury decide his guilt or innocence."
She thinks the case against Cosby is strong and noted that he's already admitted to drugging women in the past.
"The current DA in Montgomery County, Kevin Steele, has cited, as part of the reason, not the entire reason, but part of the reason why he felt that there was new evidence based on which he could file a criminal case where in Mr. Cosby testified that he did, in fact, give Quaaludes to some women with the intent to have sex. Those are his own words. He saying that's the truth. He testified to it under penalty of perjury, under oath. Why would he want the truth excluded from a criminal case?"
Allred also directed her ire at Castor for questioning the legitimacy of the accusations made against Cosby by Andrea Constand.
"I thought it was completely improper for him to attack her credibility. Completely unnecessary too to even, as testimony about going forward at the time or not going forward at the time, but anyway he did it and we all know she's suing him, so maybe that has something to do with it. I don't know."
