Shelter-in-place at Glassboro Public Schools lifted after police investigated potential threat

Glassboro Police say no credible danger after shelter in place order

GLASSBORO, N.J. (CBS) -- Glassboro Police say there's no "credible danger" to students after schools were ordered to shelter in place Thursday morning following a social media threat.

Police say out of an abundance of caution, all Glassboro schools were put in "shelter in place" while they investigated the credibility and origin of the threat.

Ivan Concepcion's children go to Thomas Bowe Middle School, and he said once the shelter in place was lifted, he planned to immediately pick up his children.

"I just want my kids home, and then I'll be happy, but they're saying that it's safe for them to stay in there," Concepcion said. "I'm like, I feel safer with the kids at the house, but it's overwhelming right now."

Eventually, Concepcion got to safely pick up his children.

"I asked them if they wanted to go to the after-school program. They said 'no,' they're ready to come home," Concepcion said. "They've had enough of today."

Investigators determined the threat originated in another state.

Police said contrary to social media rumors, there was no active shooter threat, shooting incident or any act of violence at any of Glassboro's schools.

Police remained at all Glassboro schools for the remainder of the day as a precautionary measure. No students or staff were injured.

The investigation is continuing with the assistance of the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office and other agencies.
