PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia judge has sentenced a Frankford man to 50 to 100 years in prison for unspeakable crimes, crimes the judge said should make grown-ups cry upon hearing them.
The defendant was convicted of the savage rape and beating of two small children, children of his girlfriends, in 2011.
The victims a three-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy at the time both were raped and beaten, nearly to death. The boy was not expected to live. They've suffered permanent injuries. Judge Denis Cohen has told defendant Julio Esquilin it is hard to believe anyone in this world would be so brutal, so violent against little children and he feared what could happen to children, to the community, if Esquilin ever got out of prison.
"Judge Cohen has cured that issue by making sure this gentleman will never, ever walk the streets of this city again," prosecutor James Carpenter said.
Esquilin, who did not speak in court, was also the victim of a serial sexual abuser as a child.
