Fox Chase Cancer Center Opens New Bone Marrow Transplant Outpatient Facility
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Temple's Fox Chase Cancer Center opened a new outpatient facility today to better serve bone marrow transplant patients who are battling leukemia and other deadly forms of cancer.
The facility will help patients making the transition from intensive care to outpatient treatment. Fox Chase CEO Dr. Richard Fisher says this is all about convenience for patients.
"It's really important that we have an excellent outpatient facility that's easy for them to get to, where we can meet all their needs," said Dr. Fisher.
It's located on the fifth floor atop the Jeanes Hospital building.
Cancer survivor Heather Walters credits the doctors at Fox Chase with saving her life. She says the bright, open floor plan and big examination rooms will help give future patients hope.
"Anyone that's going through a hard time needs to be able to see that there's light, figuratively and literally, it's just amazing to see real light and feel real light. And feel like there's a light at the end of the tunnel for you when you're going through this," said Walters.
Another benefit to the facility is patients will be with the same doctors and nurses through their entire treatment process.
