Former President Clinton In Town For Campaign Fundraiser
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A campaign fundraiser was held Thursday afternoon in Center City for Marjorie Margolies who's aiming to return to the U.S. congress.
Former president Bill Clinton was the keynote speaker:
"I'm not coming here saying vote for her because 20 years ago she saved the economy and gave up her seat to do it," Clinton told the crowd.
He says he's there because you won't hear Margolies say that:
"What I hear her say is 'you should vote for me and one of the reasons you should is what I did then shows you what member of congress I would be if you give me another chance'."
Many of the speakers praised Margolies for her bravery and putting her immediate political career on hold when she cast the decisive vote for the Clinton budget in 1993. This was not popular with the then heavily Republican District 13 voters and she was not re-elected.
"I would be here...if her son was not my son-in-law," Clinton added.
This years democratic primary is May 20th.
