Former Mayor Street Follows Ed Rendell On Witness Stand At Fraud Trial Of Fattah Jr.
By Steve Tawa
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Former Mayor John Street told jurors in the Chaka Fattah Jr. bank and wire fraud trial that the son of the long-time Congressman did photography work for him between 2002 and 2004.
Although the main charges against Chaka Fattah Jr. span the years 2005 to 2012, the defendant, who is representing himself, has been calling people with whom he had contracts. That, to establish his point that he ran legitimate businesses.
But most of those witnesses, like Governor Rendell and Mayor Street, had contact with Fattah prior to the years spelled out in the indictment.
Fattah says he received $44,000 for his services for John Street between 2002 and 2004.
Outside the courthouse, Street recalled the bulk of the contact centered on what Street called his "Polaroid Posse" which were photos in the pre smart and cell phone days that focused on voters at public events and subway stops.
"I wasn't supervising or micro-managing him," says Street. "I was doing what I did and he took a lot of pictures."
The judge also told jurors that they were "on or ahead of schedule," and it was his hope that they could hear closing arguments on Monday and begin deliberations on Tuesday.
