Flower Show Preview: Courtney Peterson and Her Jewelry
By Molly Daly
LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. (CBS) -- There wouldn't be a Philadelphia Flower Show without Pennsylvania Horticultural Society members -- like Courtney Peterson, who's on the executive committee of the show.
She's also a vendor in the Flower Show Marketplace, creating silver and gold jewelry in her Chester County studio.
The unique pieces reflect Peterson's love of nature -- and her sense of humor. This year she is immortalizing an inescapable, introduced pest.
"I'm going to have some stink bugs this time," she says. "Why not? Might as well make them pretty!"
Her favorite part of the Flower Show is the Horticourt, where expert and novice gardeners enter plants for judging by the nation's most distinguished horticulturists.
"Individuals come, and they've got this plant that they've nurtured and loved," Peterson says. "The Horticourt is where you can bring it, even if you've never done it before. You go through the passers" -- who check to make sure a plant is entered in the correct class -- "and there your plant is sitting, for everybody to see. Everybody can be involved with it. It's really worth it!"
