Excessive Heat Warning For Philadelphia And Suburbs
By Geoff Bansen
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's going to be a steamy, sizzling, sweltering day across parts of the Delaware Valley. It has hit 95° four different times so far this year, and we expect yet another on Wednesday. Factor in the humidity, and you get "feels-like" temperatures approaching the century mark. For this reason, the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Philadelphia and the immediate suburbs, which goes into effect at noon and lasts through 6pm this evening. An air quality alert is also in effect for all counties except for southeast NJ. If you are someone that may have trouble breathing, take it very easy outside today.
Wednesday will be a great day to find some relief down the shore. Highs will still reach the upper 80s, but it will certainly feel more comfortable with a sea breeze and water in the low to mid 70s. The sun will be shinning and the UV index is very high, so make sure to lather on the sunscreen.
On Thursday, a cold front will swing through during the afternoon. A line of thunderstorms will impact the region, but it's passage will eventually lower the humidity. Temperatures will still be hot on Friday and for the weekend, but it will feel less oppressive.
