Ex-PHL Baggage Handler Gets More Than A Decade In Prison For Drug Conspiracy
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A former baggage handler at Philadelphia International Airport was sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his participating in a large scale drug organization.
James Mickens, 30, was given an 11 year prison sentence in relation to the crimes.
Officials say between February 2010 and July 2011, Mickens, a former US Airways baggage claim handler at PHL, used his airport access card to smuggle hundreds of thousands of dollars in drug proceeds through the airport.
Mickens is also said to have made multiple trips to Los Angeles for the drug organization, where he carried cocaine and marijuana back to Philadelphia as checked luggage.
In addition to a prison term, Mickens was ordered five years of supervised release.
