Dozens Displaced After Apartment Fire In Delaware County

DARBY BOROUGH, Pa. (CBS) -- George Subah felt enormous relief Thursday morning when he found his cat Maverick alive after a late night fire ripped through the building where his store is located.
Subah says the building suffered serious water and smoke damage, but he's just glad his furry companion is okay.
"The guy opened the door and allowed me to grab her quickly," said Subah. "I'm so happy."
The fire broke out around 11 p.m. Wednesday, causing an evacuation of the building located on the 800 block of Main Street in Darby.
There are apartments on the second and third floors.
"I got woken up by screams of fire and police and everybody told me just get out," said resident Arin Shoemaker.
Shoemaker is one of 31 people displaced by the fire.
"I'm still in a little bit of shock and disbelief," said Shoemaker.
The Red Cross is assisting all residents and provided shelter for those who needed it Wednesday night.
Volunteers will continue to work with those affected Thursday.
Luckily no one was injured, thanks to quick action by firefighters and initially police.
Darby's Fire Chief Robert Childs says police officers were the ones to call in the fire, after they spotted smoke while working at a construction site nearby.
Fire officials have not yet determined what caused the fire.
