Delaware County Man Arrested For 6th DUI After 3 Car Crash

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – Police in Newtown Square have arrested a man for his sixth DUI offense following a three vehicle crash that happened on Oct. 1st.

On Wednesday around 2:24 p.m., officers responded to the accident at West Chester Pike and Barren Road in Newtown Square.

An investigation determined that a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Thomas Anthony Cleary, 36, of Upper Darby, struck two other cars from behind while they were stopped in traffic at a red light.

During the investigation, police determined Cleary was under the influence of alcohol or drugs to the point that he was incapable of safe driving. He was arrested for DUI and transported to Springfield Hospital, where blood samples were taken.

During processing, police learned that Cleary's license was under suspension due to five prior DUI arrests since 2003. There was also a warrant issued for his arrest for violating probation.

Cleary was arrested and taken to George Hill Correction Facility in lieu of bail.
