Day 2 Without Power For Thousands In Bucks County After Ice Storm
By Diana Rocco
YARDLEY, Pa., (CBS) -- More than one-third of all homes in Bucks County are without power for a second straight night.
That's more than 81,000 customers.
But there has been a dramatic improvement in Yardley, where 95 percent of customers were without power Thursday night. Within the 10 p.m. hour, more than 700 homes were put back on line. Only 500 customers remain in the dark.
Thousands in Bucks County are still in the dark and looking at a second night in the cold, with little to no end in sight.
"It's been terrible. I've been living in front of my fire place, no electricity," resident Craig Forchetti said.
"We just want our kids to go back to school and go to normal," resident Sheri Yesilsoy said.
For many there's been no work or school and now no way to get around. Sheri Yesilsoy is just trying to get to Main Street in Yardley but keeps hitting road blocks.
"It's okay, we'll figure it out," Yesilsoy said.
Trees hanging on wires and in the street closed Taylorsville Road and others off of 522.
And it's been more of the same from Upper and Lower Makefield to Washington Crossing. In Yardley, 95 percent of the town didn't have heat or electricity. Up until this morning The Yardley Inn was running on a generator.
"We've been packed. We put out on Facebook charge your phone," Michele Mohollen of The Yardley Inn said.
With limited lights they opened their doors for a warm place to eat and some basics.
"It's a little cold, and without power, without internet, cable," Arelle Davis said.
Generators are running over time. If you can find them.
"Everyone was just sold out," Damien Madison said.
Madison was able to secure one of the last after he was told it could be five days before he sees power. He and his mom have been living by candlelight since Wednesday morning.
"It's been a little crazy trying to get some power, get the heat on that's really what my goal, everybody's goal on the street is, get the heat going because pipes could freeze and it's just cold," he said.
At it's height, PECO had about 135,000 customers here in Bucks County without power. They've cut that number just about in half. But still some on this block are telling CBS 3 they were told it could be Wednesday before they see power here fully restored.
