City Councilman Wants PayPal To Move To Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Councilman Mark Squilla hopes Philadelphia can make a play to lure PayPal to the city after the company scrapped plans to open a new operations center in Charlotte in response to North Carolina passing the controversial 'bathroom bill' aimed at transgender individuals.

Squilla told Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT that Philadelphia would be a great landing spot for PayPal.

"Every company we want to come to Philadelphia. We just saw an opportunity that PayPal did not like some of the policies and laws created in North Carolina because they thought, maybe, they were discriminatory. Here in Philadelphia, we believe people have a right to choose where they want to go and what they want to do and if PayPal decides they don't want to go to North Carolina, I think Philadelphia would be a great choice for them and I think that we can create opportunities for jobs for our residents."

Squilla also joined with PayPal in voicing his opposition to the bill in question

"I believe that they should be treating everybody fairly. I think in this day and age that people should have the same equal rights as everybody else. I don't think anybody should be discriminated against by race, creed, religion, or sexual orientation."
