Chris Stigall Reacts To Creation Of Special House Select Committee On Benghazi

By Chris Stigall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Chris Stigall discussed the reaction to Speaker of the House John Boehner establishing the special House Select Committee to investigate the terrorist attacks on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya in 2012.

Stigall said the Democrats have been exposed as hypocrites for demanding equal representation on the committee.

"The party that just seized [and] hijacked any voice of the minority in the Senate, now wants an equal voice in the House. In terms and judicial appointments and judicial purview, the nuclear option was invoked. A hundreds of years old precedent of Senate Republicans giving advice and consent on judicial appointments was stripped of them and now a simple majority vote is all that it takes. Harry Reid invoking that nuclear option to shut out minority dissent in the Senate and now Nancy Pelosi is running around demanding equal voice, equal vote on the Benghazi hearing. It really is quite funny," he said.

He contended the media will attack Republicans for holding hearings in an effort to protect the Obama administration.

"I guess Jon Stewart is really starting to demonize Benghazi dutifully too. I've told you comedians have become ground zero in the political debate in this country, unfortunately. For better or for worse, comedians are now being looked as the bellwether for everything. Jon Stewart, on the Daily Show, went after anybody for daring to question what went down in Benghazi and holding a formal committee hearing on it."

Stigall also claimed that getting answers on the attack is exactly what then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asked for in her Senate testimony.

"Anybody that wants to criticize continued investigation into Benghazi, you need to look no further than the statement from former Secretary of State and presumptive Presidential candidate in 2016, Hillary Clinton. It was right after she said, 'what difference, at this point does it make,' the very next sentence was 'it is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again,' direct quote, January 23rd, [2013]…don't you think that's what a select committee would do? I do," he concluded.
