Chester County Prison Guard Charged With Smuggling Drugs To Inmates

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- A guard at the Chester County Prison is under arrest on charges he helped smuggle drugs to inmates.
Douglas Keck, 45, who was recently hired as a correctional officer at the Chester County Prison, could be spending 3-6 years behind bars himself after, according to prosecutors, he was caught helping inmates smuggle drugs into the prison.
Chester County district attorney Tom Hogan says he is astonished at the brazenness of the scheme, which was run by inmates through phone calls on prison phones.
"There are signs at the prison that say your phone calls are being recorded," Hogan notes. "There is a recording on the beginning of the telephone call that says your phone call is being recorded. And then there are periodic updates during the course of the telephone call that reminds people that their call is being recorded."
Hogan says that in addition to Keck, there were four inmates involved, one of them now on the run from a halfway house.
And Hogan says those in the prison were helped by three people on the outside, including one inmate's girlfriend and another's fiancée.
Keck has been fired, and has turned himself in to authorities.
