Cherry Hill Police Launch Recruitment Campaign
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) - The Cherry Hill Police Department has launched a very aggressive effort to recruit more officers.
The department tested candidates at Cherry Hill East High School over the weekend.
Officials say more than 1,000 people signed up.
"In light of the negative perception, in essence, that's been painted upon police recently, to have 1.200 people want to come out and still serve and become police officers is an extremely power message," says Chief William Monaghan. "And the fact that they want to do it here brings a lot of pride to this organization."
Officials invited religious and community leaders to participate in the recruitment process trying to ensure a diverse group of candidates.
