Improperly discarded cigarette causes fire displacing 9 families in Camden County: Officials

Cigarette sparked fire at Camden County apartment building, fire officials say

PINE HILL, N.J. (CBS) – Nine families were displaced by a 4-alarm apartment fire overnight. Officials say the fire broke out around 11 p.m. on Friday in Pine Hill.

The Pine Hill Marshal's Office said the fire was caused by "an improperly discarded cigarette on the balcony" of an apartment.

Almost 25 people in total are without a home now.

The Red Cross will be assisting those who have been impacted.

Displaced families can check in with the Pine Hill Municipal Building on Monday at 9 a.m. to be connected with assistance.

No injuries were reported.
