Camden City, Cherry Hill School Districts Working On Hybrid Plan For Fall Reopening
CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- There is still no solid plan on how to reopen schools across Camden County. Both Cherry Hill and Camden City say their primary focus is the health and safety of everyone that will enter their buildings once schools reopen.
The coronavirus transmission rate is currently down to a .01% in Camden County and Gov. Phil Murphy left it up to each district to figure out what schools will look like this fall.
Certainly, there is no replacement for having a teacher in front of a classroom.
Both Cherry Hill and Camden City say they are listening to representation from different backgrounds and directions from the Department of Education and the state.
There is a digital divide when it comes to students gaining access. Camden County is working to abolish that divide.
In the City of Camden, 92% of students have Chromebooks and internet access. A huge jump from 30% back in March and April.
"Whatever modality is that we go to, we'll still need to be flexible to pivot back to full remote learning at any time," Superintendent of Camden City School District Katrina McCombs said.
Cherry Hill is focusing on a hybrid plan and in the meantime working on getting 100% connectivity for all its students.
