Beethoven's First Symphony At Verizon Hall
By RJ McKay
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Jeremy Rothman, the vice president of artistic planning for the Philadelphia Orchestra, shared an overview of Beethoven's First, performed on May 8th and 9th at Verizon Hall.
"This program is led by our conductor-in-residence, Cristian Macelaru. It's a wonderful program, including the music of Beethoven and also some of his musical neighbors to the north and to the east," Rothman explained.
"Cristian Macelaru is leading Beethoven's First Symphony…Beethoven was always informed by his musical neighbors, but this First Symphony in particular was revolutionary, like all of Beethoven's music, and it's filled with all of his great melodies, harmonies, motifs, and it's a fantastic addition to this particular program," he continued.
In addition, Sarah Chang returns home to perform Dvorak's violin concerto.
