Auvi-Q Brand Epinephrine Auto-Injector Recalled For Dosage Concerns
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Auvi-Q brand of epinephrine auto-injector has been recalled by the manufacturer. Now, parents of children with severe allergies are scrambling to find replacements ahead of Halloween weekend.
The recall affects all Auvi-Q auto injectors because the dosage could be inaccurate. Patients and parents of those who rely on the life saving pens are encouraged to contact their doctor immediately about getting a new EpiPen.
Center City resident Cheri Cutler is the mother of a seven-year-old boy with severe food allergies. She was shocked when she stumbled upon the recall information online:
"Both my pharmacy and the nurse at the doctor's office were happy I told them about the recall, but I was a little concerned that they didn't know yet."
EpiPens and EpiPen Junior are both unaffected and the company says there is enough inventory available for everyone to get a replacement.
