Aston Township Boy Launches Police K-9 Support Campaign
By Walt Hunter
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Logan Mast is a five-year-old little boy with a huge heart.
Asked a few weeks ago what he would like for his birthday, Logan told his mom and dad, "nothing for me."
Instead he asked donations and treats for local K-9 units in police departments in and around his Aston Township, Delaware County neighborhood.
Within days, the donations and treats began pouring in, so many, the family established a Facebook page "Logan's Heroes" and a GoFundMe site.
"He sees officers as helpful and caring, so he want to do what they do," Logan's mom Nicole told CBS 3's Walt Hunter.
Logan and his family have now personally distributed special baskets to at least seven police K-9 units, among the gifts, toys and treats, along with gift cards for protective items needed by the dogs and their partners.
Logan's family says they are already planning to expand the special program for Logan's next birthday beyond K-9 units to entire departments.
Logan, his mother adds, at five, has already learned a lesson that some struggle their whole lives to grasp: it's way better to give than to receive.
