Film buffs gather around their TV's for the Oscars every year in late winter. The Academy awards though are similar to the Super Bowl in that it will attract even casual fans. The main part of any party is the guests, food, venue and entertainment. Since the Oscars are the main entertainment then you only need worry that you have good viewing. If you would like to throw a fun and memorable Oscar's party you of course need those things but you may want to make it a bit more fun by adding some creativity to the mix. Decor & Attire

Typically Oscar parties all involve ballots, gold sparkling drinks and décor and sometimes even sparkly guests. You can go big and make it black tie-ish, or go as casual as a PJ party, if the hibernation of winter is in full effect. Le Anne has a unique idea for a costume event: "Ask your guests to come in character; you could limit it to only the current year's nominees." You may want to roll out your own red carpet and take pictures.

Go Upscale On The Food

The Oscars can be done in a themed Old Hollywood style party to add some class. So you may want to consider more upscale snacks like sushi, hummus dips and fondue. You can also consider putting out themed food and drinks that are related to the nominees. Finger food is best, so people have the freedom to mingle and chat.

Don't Forget The Drinks

Drinks should be on the decadent side as well. Consider putting out champagne and a variety of juices. You can also get sparkling Italian sodas and sparkling grape juice or apple juice for guests who can't or do not want to drink alcohol. Le Anne has done a blind beer tasting, which can be fun for your fellow beer lovers. You can select from locally made craft beers. Le Anne recommends upping the bar by pairing the beers with different cheeses.

It's All Fun & Games

True film buffs would rather test their knowledge than watch the red carpet events and pre-awards coverage. Consider doing a trivia contest with your guests. This could be something you compile yourself from the current Oscars or a trivia board game. You, of course, can add some fun to the show by printing out sheets of the nominees for your guests to make their picks. Everyone likes to win prizes, so you can put together a gift box with some fun items for the winner. Le Anne also mentioned making your own mini-films during the commercials. Many smart phones these days have apps to put together short films, like Vine. "You can later transfer to the big screen and select a winner.  Everyone will have a great laugh and a lasting memory."

Consider A Popcorn Bar

What is more movie related in the food department than popcorn? You can pop or purchase a variety of popcorns in bowls. Then add toppings or even create a toppings bar. Think sweet, salty and savory, so include things like chocolate, caramel, cheese or even hot sauce. You can even add candy, pretzels and other typical toppings for the most adventurous palates.
