Art Program Offers Patients A Chance To Just Be Kids
By Lynne Adkins
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An art program this week will give hospitalized children a break from the normal medical routine.
The Thursday afternoon art session will give the young patients a chance to think of something besides their illnesses.
Beth Carlough is the Child Life Manager of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington. She says, "When kids are here in the hospital, there's a lot of focus on their health and we like to focus on kids being kids first. So it's an activity where they're doing artwork and focusing on fun things that kids do normally."
The pictures will be made into such useful items as t-shirts, mugs, place mats and sheets that can be sold to benefit sick children and medical research.
It's all part of a program called Kidz b Kidz.
