American Bible Society Moving National Headquarters To The City Of Brotherly Love

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One of the nation's first non-profits, about to celebrate its bicentennial next year, will do so by moving from New York City to the historical center of Philadelphia.
American Bible Society's national headquarters will relocate to 5th and Market Streets.
American Bible Society's mission is to engage more people with the best-selling book of all time.
"Philadelphia is actually is a sense our birthplace. The founder of American Bible Society was a Philadelphia son.'
CEO Roy Peterson says American Bible Society's first president, Elias Boudinot, had roots in the city.
Peterson says American Bible Society is working to make the Bible available to everyone in a language and format each can understand and afford.
"We are setting a vision for 100-million Americans will be actively reading the scriptures on a daily basis in their personal lives."
The've produced 1,000 translations, and plan 1,800 more of the world's 7,000 languages.
American Bible Society recently worked with the Vatican to distribute 1-million copies of the Scriptures at a gathering that Pope Francis had in St. Peter's Square in Rome, and will do likewise when the Pope visits Philadelphia in September.
