After Expensive Race For PA's Top Office, Corbett And Wolf Find Out If The Money Pays Off

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- This race for Pennsylvania Governor has been the most expensive race for the commonwealth's top office.

According to polls, a 60-year-trend could end with this race, as since 1954 the Pennsylvania governor office's has alternated parties every 8 years.

But incumbent governor Tom Corbett has trailed by a sizable margin for most of the campaign.

His supporters are working to defend his record on education funding, and they point to his efforts to avoid tax and fee hikes, and to create jobs.

But he's been heavily criticized for his reluctance to push for an extraction tax on natural gas companies.

This as he tries to paint his opponent, businessman Tom Wolf, as a tax-and-spend liberal. Wolf says he plans to shift the tax burden to higher income earners, while easing the burden on middle class tax payers -- a plan that's come under fire for being too vague.
