All Lanes Of I-95 Reopen After Accident Shuts Down Section In Delaware County
RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, PA. (CBS) -- All lanes of Interstate-95 have reopened after an accident early Sunday morning that shut down a stretch of the interstate in Delaware County.
The crash involving a tractor-trailer and two other vehicles happened around 9:15 a.m. Sunday in the northbound lanes at exit 7 (I-476) in Crum Lynne, Ridley Township.
Police say 57 year-old Leroy Devauly of Pomeroy, Pennsylvania fell asleep at the wheel and struck the attenuator in the northbound lanes at the off-ramp to 476. His tractor-trailer leaked several gallons of diesel fuel onto the road.
The other victims in the accident were 31 year-old Shanika Simpson of Wilmington, Delaware, 25 year-old Andre Williams of Wilmington, Delaware and 60 year-old Cole O'Brien of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania.
Authorities say they were taken to Crozier Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident forced the closure of all northbound lanes between Market Street and Ridley Park. As a result, traffic was backed up for miles to Chichester (exit 1).
The cause of the accident was driving under the influence. The northbound lanes of I-95 were shut down from 11 a.m and 4 p.m. Sunday while official and the environmental company cleaned the road.
