Man wanted for killing two after fatal Milwaukee crash is dead, police say

MILWAUKEE - A man suspected of fatally shooting two people at the scene of a traffic accident that killed his 2-year-old nephew has taken his own life, Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn said Thursday.

Flynn said Ricky Chiles III shot himself with his gun as police closed in on him at a hotel in the Chicago area. Milwaukee police had obtained a warrant Wednesday night for the arrest of Chiles in connection with Sunday's shooting, Flynn said.

Flynn said police suspected Chiles of killing 40-year-old Archie Brown Jr., who had struck and killed Chiles' nephew, Damani Terry, on Milwaukee's northwest side. Authorities say the toddler walked into the street in front of Brown's van.

Damani's brother, 15-year-old Rasheed Chiles, was also struck by gunfire at the scene of the accident and died at a hospital.

"This sad example is what we get when we have folks who decide it's their responsibility to use their guns to redress their grievances," Flynn said.

Witnesses say the brothers had been attending a birthday party when the accident and shootings took place.
