2 killed in small plane crash at Milwaukee airport

MILWAUKEE -- A small, single-engine passenger plane crashed and caught fire at Milwaukee's Timmerman Airport, killing both people onboard.

Milwaukee County Department of Transportation Director Brian Dranzik said in a statement the accident happened around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at the airport on the city's northwest side.

"The accident site is located entirely within the airfield. No one on the ground was injured during the incident," Dranzik said.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office says the identities of the passengers aren't being released until relatives are notified.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to be on scene Thursday morning, CBS affiliate WDJT reported.

A representative of the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office says autopsies are scheduled for Thursday.
