Flights Stranded At John Wayne Airport Due To Power Outage

ORANGE COUNTY (CBSLA) — A power outage at John Wayne Airport in Orange County temporarily grounded all flights Friday evening.

The airport said in a tweet, "There is currently a power outage in the Terminal. We are working to identify the cause. More details will be provided as it becomes available. Please check with your airline regarding any delays or cancellations."

The airport later tweeted that there was a full operational stop and that all inbound flights were being diverted and outbound flights were being cancelled.

Officials believed a normal flight schedule wouldn't happen until morning, around  7 a.m., according to SKY9's Stu Mundel.

He said if you were planning on picking someone up or departing this evening to call ahead.

Nearly 30,000 customers were without power.

The same thing goes for travel Saturday morning, Mundel reported. "To be sure, call ahead."

The outage is being blamed on an explosion at a transformer in the Irvine area.

Edison was hoping to have power fully restored in the area by 6:30 a.m. Saturday.
