DUI Crash Into Tree Takes Out Power Pole, Leaving Wires Across Monrovia Road
MONROVIA (CBSLA) — An apparent DUI crash into a tree that took out a power pole shut down a stretch of Huntington Drive in Monrovia.
A car hit a tree in Huntington Drive's center divider, which pulled down power lines and a pole, at about midnight Thursday in the 900 block of East Huntington Drive.
The driver was taken to a hospital with chest pains from where the seat belt held her back, and police are investigating if she was intoxicated at the time. She was the only person in the car, and no other cars were involved in the crash.
As many as 2,000 homes were without power immediately after the crash. Power has been returned to all but about two dozen Southern California Edison customers. Power is scheduled to be fully restored by 8 a.m.
The toppled power pole left power and utility lines across Huntington Drive. Crews are on the scene working to clean up the mess and repair the power pole and lines.
