Car Crashes Into Hydrant, Causes Power Outages Near Universal City

UNIVERSAL CITY (CBSLA) -- A car crash near Universal City caused a massive geyser Saturday night. Water was seen shooting several stories into the air after a vehicle hit a fire hydrant along Cahuenga Boulevard.

Water from the hydrant hit power lines, which caused a small explosion and led to power outages in the area.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported outage alerts for Universal City, Studio City and Hollywood Hills.

More than 1,000 customers were affected for about two hours. Power has since been restored.

The condition of the driver who crashed is unclear. Police say the driver left on foot and has not been found since.
