165 Houses Without Power In Beaumont After Car Crash Downs Power Lines

BEAUMONT (CBSLA.com) — About 165 homes are without power in Beaumont Sunday afternoon after a two-car crash knocked down power lines early this morning.

Firefighters responded to a car crash round 6 a.m. at the corner of Oak Valley Parkway and Oak Valley Drive. The firefighters found two people trapped inside a smashed vehicle with two power lines lying on top of the car.

Firefighters were able to extricate one of the victims, who sustained minor injuries, but had to wait an hour to extricate the other victim, who was unresponsive, until a SoCal Edison crew arrived to kill the circuit.

SoCal Edison crews said homes affected by the outages will be without power into Sunday evening and power will be restored by 7 a.m. Monday.

The City of Beaumont opened a cooling center at the Albert A. Chatigny Center at noon for residents affected by the outage. Temperatures in Beaumont were above 100 degrees on Sunday afternoon and the city was under an excessive heat warning.
