Motorcyclist Killed In Early Morning Crash On I-25
MEAD, Colo. (CBS4)- A motorcyclist was struck and killed early Monday morning on Interstate 25.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes of I-25 near the Mead exit at mile marker 245.
Copter4 flew over the scene where traffic was reduced to one lane during the accident investigation and cleanup. The motorcycle wreckage was on the shoulder and the vehicle was parked in the median with extensive damage.
Investigators with the Colorado State Patrol said the driver of a Dodge Stratus lost control and ended up in the median facing the wrong way. The driver tried to make a U-turn to get back onto the highway but crossed into the path of a motorcycle going southbound in the right lane.
The motorcycle struck the vehicle. The man on the motorcycle was air lifted to Medical Center of the Rockies where he died from his injuries.
There were no injuries to anyone inside the Stratus.
Investigators are working on piecing together the events as they happened leading up to the crash before determining whether charges will be recommended.
The identity of the motorcyclist hasn't been released.
