Lightning Strike Causes Homeowner's Tree To Explode

DENVER (CBS4) - An apparent lightning strike hit a tree in southwest Denver causing it to explode on Wednesday evening.

The lightning came with a band of rain that moved across the Denver metro area.

"We were sitting in the kitchen and all the sudden there was a huge boom and it went 'woosh,' and it was a loud, loud sound and we're like 'What happened?' and glass shattered everywhere," said Peggy McDonald, the homeowner.

The home is on South Ivan Way not far from Sheridan Boulevard.

Details about the extent of the damage have not been released.

No one was reportedly hurt.
