Lightning Strike Likely Caused House Fire In Estes Park

ESTES PARK, Colo. (CBS4) - Firefighters in Estes Park battled a house fire they say was possibly caused by a lightning strike Saturday afternoon.

According to officials the home was fully involved when firefighters arrived.

Nobody was home at the time and nobody was injured. The official cause hasn't been released but witnesses said they heard a lightning strike moments before the fire started.

"I heard a couple of strikes and then we heard a loud one and I saw it before and I knew that it had to hit really close," said Kris Chrastil, who was visiting Estes Park. "Went out the back door at first and didn't see anything; came out the front and noticed the house was on fire."

Fire officials said the home is a total loss. The homeowners live out of state and have been notified.
