SUV Crashes Into IDOT Truck On Kennedy Expressway

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man drove an SUV into an IDOT maintenance truck that was stopped to help a motorist on the Interstate 90/94 Kennedy Expressway, sending a worker and driver to area hospitals Sunday night.

The IDOT worker was getting into the truck about 11 p.m. after helping a motorist fix a flat tire on the southbound shoulder of the Kennedy near Addison Street when a 22-year-old man driving an SUV slammed into the back of the truck, Illinois State Police Sgt. Rodney Collins said.

The IDOT worker suffered minor injuries to his left arm and was taken to Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center in good condition, Collins said.

The 22-year-old SUV driver was taken in good condition with minor facial lacerations to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, he said.

Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges were pending against the driver of the SUV.
