Naked Man Arrested After NW Indiana Pursuit
MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (STMW) -- An on-again, off-again police pursuit on U.S. 30 Friday afternoon ended when a Hammond man crashed into four other vehicles, then took off running naked down Broadway, police said.
The incident started when police tried to stop a car for a traffic violation on U.S. 30 about 1 p.m., but the driver, Alfredo Guzman Jr., sped away, Police Chief Joseph Petruch said. He said police halted the pursuit to not endanger the public.
Later, Lake County sheriff's and Schererville police saw Guzman's car and pursued it when he again took off, according to police. They said he struck four cars at U.S. 30 and Broadway, jumped out and started running, shedding his clothes as he ran south on Broadway toward 83rd Avenue, where a Merrillville officer captured him.
No one was seriously injured in the crashes, Petruch said, adding that police are not sure why Guzman removed his clothing.
Guzman, 27, was charged with resisting police and failure to appear. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries in the crashes and taken to the Lake County Jail.
