Grand Crossing shooting leaves man, 69, dead
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 69-year-old man was shot multiple times in Grand Crossing Wednesday evening and later died.
The man was in an apartment building in the 7600 block of South Drexel Avenue when she was shot multiple times Wednesday afternoon by an unknown person, police said.
The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, police said. He was later pronounced dead. Sources told CBS 2 the man was shot multiple times in his torso.
The man later died at the hospital.
Michael Pryor, a neighbor, said the 69-year-old veteran lived alone in the second-floor apartment for the past four years.
"I don't like what they did," Pryor said. "He's an old man, in his 60s, late 60s and you want to do this to him?"
Pryor said the victim was most likely shot on the second floor in front of his apartment and made his way to the first floor. There was a trail of blood from the second to the first floor.
Pryor added of the victim, "He was a friend to me.
"If he asked me for something, I would give it to him," Pryor said. "If I asked him for something, he'd give it to me."
Area 2 detectives are investigating. No suspects have been arrested.
