Activists based in Pilsen on the city's West Side and Greater Grand Crossing on the city's South Side stood together Friday – issuing a plea to put down the guns this Cinco de Mayo.
Craig Messiah-Smith, 24, was Monday afternoon, just minutes after police said he shot two women inside a home in the 7400 block of South Ellis Avenue.

Four people were robbed, two while getting out of their cars Tuesday evening in the Grand Crossing and West Town neighborhoods.
Police said the boys found their way to a home two miles from the scene before being rushed to the hospital, while the suspected shooters held police in a standoff back near the scene in South Shore. CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reports.

A convenience store worker was shot to death during an attempted robbery in Chicago's Grand Crossing neighborhood Tuesday night. The incident happened around 10:16 p.m. in the 300 block of East 79th Street.
