CUB Promises To Fight Potential ComEd Rate Hike
(CBS) -- ComEd is asking for another rate hike, but the Citizens Utility Board says it will fight it every step of the way.
ComEd says the money would help pay for its massive overhaul of the electrical grid.
The rate hike is based on a law passed in 2011 to modernize ComEd's delivery system, which includes smart meters, but CUB says the power grid upgrades should pay for themselves.
"This is the last news that consumers need to hear after the brutal winter we had and that's why CUB is going to look at every penny of this rate hike request and we're going to do everything we can to reduce ComEd's rate hike," said Jim Chilson, CUB
If approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission, the $275 million rate hike would add about $3 to the average household's monthly electric bill by January of 2015.
