Coroner Looking To Find Family Of Man Killed In Hammond Hit-And-Run
(CBS) -- Hammond Police and the Lake County Coroner are looking for the family of a 58-year-old man who was killed in a hit-and-run crash two weekends ago.
Authorities are looking for a couple of key pieces of information.
First, they want to know who was driving the late model Dodge pickup that struck and killed 58-year-old Stephen Thompson of Hammond.
It happened on the night of February 7 at 169th and Calumet in Hammond. Apparently Thompson had been at a bar called Billy Bears and he was walking down the street when he was hit.
Hammond Police Lieutenant Patrick Vicari says they want to find Thompson's family.
"From what we've learned, that's a pretty tight-knit bar crowd. So that night we were able to identify him pretty much right away by people who knew him by the street name 'Cowboy.'"
But no one seems to know Thompson's next of kin.
If no next of kin is found, Thompson may be buried by Lake County, Indiana.
Anything with information about the hit-and-run or Thompson's next-of-kin is asked to call Hammond Police at 219-853-6490, or Sgt. Tracy Laurinec of the Hammond Police Hit-and-Run Section at 219-852-2940.
The Lake County Coroner's office is also asking for information about Thompson's family. The coroner's office number is 219-755-3265.
