Chicago Police Officer Injured In Wrigleyville Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A Chicago Police officer was injured in a crash with an Uber minivan in Wrigleyville late Thursday.

About 10:30 p.m., a man—who identified himself to reporters on the scene as Luis Gomez—was driving an Uber XL vehicle west on Addison Street, trying to turn south onto Clark Street, police said.

The minivan—which had six passengers in it — collided with a Chicago Police vehicle that was eastbound on Addison, police said.

One officer was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Four of the six passengers were also taken to Masonic Medical Center, while the other two were taken to Thorek Hospital, police said. All six refused medical treatment after arriving at the hospitals.

Gomez, 23, refused medical treatment at the scene, police said. He was cited for failing to yield right of way and damage to public property.

According to an Uber spokesperson, per standard procedure, the driver has been removed from the platform as the company investigates the crash.
