UPDATE: Suspected Arrested In Fatal Hammond, Ind. Shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 32-year-old Lynwood man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting Monday morning in northwest Indiana.
A woman was found dead and two other people were critically wounded at a home in the 1300 block of Truman Street. Police responded to the scene around 6 a.m. Monday.
A woman had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. She was identified as 44-year-old Carmelle Erbie Cajuste, according to police and the Lake County coroner's office. She lived on the same block as the shooting.
A 36-year-old woman who had been shot in the head and a 27-year-old man who had been shot in the neck were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Hammond police identified the suspect as Joseph E. Barner, 32, of Lynwood, Illinois. They later arrested him in Illinois, police said.
"This neighborhood has been quiet for years; very quiet for years. All the gang bangers are gone. Nothing happening in this neighborhood for years," neighbor Mildred Rodriguez said.
Family members did not want to talk on camera, but called the shooting a domestic issue turned tragic.
