Paris mayor swims in Seine days before start of Olympics
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo took a dip in the Seine on Wednesday, fulfilling a promise to show that the long-polluted river is now clean enough to host open water swimming events during the 2024 Olympics. A vast engineering project costing $1.5 billion has been spent on efforts since 2015 to clean up the river and stanch the flow of sewage and industrial waste.
