Zack Martin Goes Down; Cowboys Hope It's Only A Stinger

OXNARD, Calif. (105.3 The Fan) - While the Cowboys-Rams all-out brawl on will get most of the headlines from Tuesday's combined training-camp practice — and not without some justification — the Cowboys are immediately infinitely more concerned with the health of All-Pro offensive guard Zack Martin.

"It's for sure a stinger and we've got to obviously do a lot of work and make sure there's nothing more there," Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said after

Martin went down in first-team drills while blocking against the Rams on a Darren McFadden run. "Hopefully that's all it will be. Obviously it's scary and something that we were concerned about but think we can keep our fingers crossed there and hopefully he'll be fine."

The Cowboys have notable talent and depth along the offensive line, with three Pro Bowlers, solid starters in Doug Free and Ron Leary, and prized rookie La'el Collins. But this scare — and hopefully that's all it is — marks yet another example of how over the course of a long season this depth will likely be valued.

Martin remained on the ground for an extended period of time, was eventually helped up, and then helped off and slowly walked himself to the locker room.

"It's always a scary if a guy goes down, you're always concerned," rookie Collins said. "I'm happy to find out that he's OK."
Cowboys fingers crossed.
