Young Girl Charged in Parents' Murder
A 12-year-old Garland girl will be tried next year for the murder of her mother and stepfather. Judge Bill Mazur's set January 24th for the jury trial, which was requested by the girl's court-appointed attorney.
Her 13-year-old boyfriend is also facing capital murder charges in the shooting deaths of Alan and Darlene Nevil. The boy's public defender and the D.A. are still talking about his trial date.
The youngster's are still being held at the Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center. To set their trial date five months after the crime is unusual, but Judge Mazur said no earlier date was available that fit everyone's schedules. The charges carry potential 40-year sentences. The youths are not being named publicly because of their ages.
