WYLIE (CBSDFW) - Neighbors in Wylie were so stunned by the hail that pelted down Monday some saved softball sized chunks in their freezer.
"The size of this hail was considerably larger than I've ever seen," said Steve Jones. "I've lived in Wylie and the area for about 50 years, and most people who I've heard talk about it, agree. It's the largest hail that we've seen."
The hail punched through homes and cars. The ice left large divots in people's yards similar to what you'd see on a golf course.
"The windows started breaking and the hail came through like a popcorn popper," said Leslie Kajs. "It was shooting from these windows to the front of the house."
Kajs said the high winds seemed force the hail sideways. She thought a tornado was following close behind.
"It was shooting all the way from here to the front door," said Kajs. "It was just band, bang, bang."
