Wrong-Way Driver Killed In Crash
PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A woman is dead after a wrong-way crash along the Sam Rayburn Tollway early Wednesday morning. The incident started at about 3:15 a.m. when police received reports about a driver traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.
Authorities from Allen first found the female wrong-way driver and started to pursue her, traveling the correct direction in the southbound lanes. They also notified authorities from other local agencies -- including Frisco and The Colony -- to see if anyone else would be able to get ahead of the driver before she crashed.
But that never happened. The wrong-way driver slammed her Honda Accord into a Ford F-150 heading northbound, just past Legacy Drive, close to Spring Creek Parkway, along the border between Frisco and Plano. The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead on the scene. The pickup truck driver was taken to Medical Center of Plano with unknown injuries, but officials said that she was talking to first responders at the scene.
The names of those involved in this crash have not yet been released. Police have also not said why the woman may have been driving in the wrong direction, or where she first entered the tollway. They did mention, however, that she was driving erratically, using the ramps to exit and enter the tollway over and over again.
Authorities shut down the northbound lanes of the tollway to conduct an investigation and cleanup the mess.
